Jones Day
Firm overview:
US international law firm Jones Day established its Greater China practice about 30 years ago and now has more than 100 lawyers across four offices in the region. The firm says the foundation for its success in the region is the fact that most of its attorneys are locally educated, “home-grown talent”.
Jones Day has a fully-licensed domestic IP agency in Beijing handling IP services including trademark and copyright. Working in collaboration with the agency are Jones Day lawyers in Shanghai with extensive biotechnology experience handling patent prosecution, invalidity actions and cross-border IP litigation.
Clients in China go to Jones Day to help them identify and manage IP risks, protect their IP rights in the country and represent them in cross-border matters. The firm has been involved in joint projects between Chinese and US biotech companies working on oncology therapies with high-value IP involved, and has also advised clients in the semiconductor, pharmaceutical and medical device industries.
Team overview:
Partner Tony Chen, based in Shanghai, has led Jones Day’s IP team and local counsel in representing clients in patent invalidation and infringement disputes before China’s patent reexamination board and IP courts. He also collaborates with colleagues in the US in representing Chinese companies in litigation involving patent infringement, International Trade Commission investigations and other IP matters.
