Hogan Lovells
Firm Overview:
Peers hail full-service international firm Hogan Lovells for its “fantastic” trademark practice in China. Hogan Lovells Fidelity—a 2016 association with PRC firm Fujian Fidelity in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone—enables the firm to be one of only eight international firms permitted to provide Chinese contentious and non-contentious legal services in a ‘one-stop shop model’. The association has obtained favourable judgments in China’s highest courts including appeals in the Supreme People’s Court, and cases awarding punitive damages in favour of long-standing client, construction company Caterpillar.
Hogan Lovells is helping Caterpillar achieve ‘well-known’ trademark recognition for its core mark in China. On the prosecution side, Hogan Lovells advises movie studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), protecting fan favourites Pink Panther, Robocop, Rocky, Creed and Legally Blonde on trademark and enforcement matters. The team’s enforcement work includes market sweeps and administrative raids to combat large scale infringement.
As a global firm, the team collaborates with 400 IP professionals worldwide on a ‘one-stop shop’ strategy for domestic and international clients and their outbound and inbound business, including brands with portfolios of over 100,000 trademarks, designs and patents.
