Rouse

Firm Overview:

Rouse’s trademark prosecution practice is praised by international lawyers as a stand-out in anti counterfeiting, enforcement and administrative raids. The firm has established itself as a trusted advisor for its “very devoted” clients in China. Industry leaders Amazon, Swarovski, Paramount and Coca-Cola engage Rouse for their trademark prosecution needs.

An unusual subject in the legal fraternity, Rouse was established in the UK in 1990, centred on IP. It now has a network of 700 people in 12 jurisdictions and, it declares, “a strong focus on more challenging markets such as Africa, Asia and the Middle East”. Rouse was one of the first foreign firms to enter the Chinese intellectual property market over 30 years ago, and now has five offices in China, including Hong Kong. A strategic partnership with Lusheng Law Firm allows the trademark team access to rights of audience in Chinese courts to advise on “notable” cases, including precedential matters before the Supreme People’s Court. The CNIPA consistently selects Rouse’s matters for its annual Top 10 Trademark Cases.

Team Overview:

Hatty Cui is head of the China Trademark Group and general manager of the China business in Beijing. Cui primarily advises the firm’s international brands expanding into the Chinese market. She provides expert advice on portfolio management, opposition, cancellation and enforcement. Deputy CEO Linda Chang recently moved to London after a period commuting there from Shanghai. Chang acts as a bridge with the team’s international clientbase and network.
