Founded in 1994, Unitalen is a full-service, intellectual property law firm headquartered in Beijing with 21 branch offices including Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
The firm’s services include procuring, licensing and enforcing IP rights, and providing guidance to avoid infringement of existing third-party IP rights. Annually the firm files more than 10,000 new patent and trademark applications with the China National Intellectual Property Administration. Unitalen also files a significant number of foreign trademark registrations and is active in ancillary IP areas, such as broadcasting, entertainment and sports law.
The trademark procurement group prosecutes trademark protection proceedings for a large and diverse base of clients. The group also advises clients in opposing and cancelling trademark registrations by adverse parties. A key focus of the practice is IP litigation, in the international or domestic arena, involving disputes over infringement, cybersquatting, counterfeiting, trade secrets, unfair competition and other IP issues.
The group has working relationships with a network of foreign counsel in over one hundred countries and regions of more than five hundred law firms.
Team overview:
Ray Lei Zhao joined Unitalen in 2002. As a senior partner at Unitalen, he successively served as the Director of the Legal Department and the Director of the International Trademark Department. Zhao has handled series cases related to IP prosecution and litigation of many domestic and foreign multinational companies, and has served as an IP consultant for well-known listed companies, providing IP rights strategy and advice. Several of his cases were rated by provincial high Courts as the top ten intellectual property cases of the year.
