Carolina del Río is a partner co-leading the IP, Technology, and Privacy group at Dentons’ Santiago office. With more than 25 years’ experience, del Río specialises in IP across prosecution, litigation, regulation, e-commerce, technology, media, telecommunications, privacy, and data protection.Her practice focuses on advising clients in software, retail, pharmaceutical, food, and entertainment industries on compliance, regulatory, and licensing matters. She also designs strategies for patent protection and licensing for Chilean companies, research and development centres, universities, and startups.In addition to Chile, her clients are based in Latin America and the Caribbean. Del Río is an active member of several professional associations, including the International Association of Privacy Practitioners, Chilean Association of Industrial Property, and International Trademark Association. She has spoken at international conferences and seminars across China, India, Japan, Spain, the US, and Chile.As part of her work, del Río promotes diversity and opportunities for women in the IP sector. She is a founding member of Mujeres del Pacífico, the largest community of women entrepreneurs in the LAC Region; and the Chilean chapter of Women in Intellectual Property Network (WIN).She holds an advisory board position at Universidad Diego Portales and was awarded its Alumni UDP 2023 Award for outstanding professional contributions.Del Río is very widely recognised in international IP rankings, including WIPR’s Leading IP Practitioner in Chile 2023; and WIPR Influential Women in IP 2023: Shining Lights, in which she was the only Chilean highlighted in the list of 50 women chosen from 1,400 nominees.
