Jared Montanaro

Jared Montanaro is an accomplished patent prosecutor who recently joined IBM’s patent defence team. In just over a year, he has become a trusted point of contact for the corporation’s most sensitive incoming IP matters.Montanaro engages in intellectual property defence and strategy matters with a focus on risk management and pre-litigation engagements. Previously, he was a lead IP attorney who concentrated on patent preparation and prosecution. In addition to mentoring the attorneys on his team, Montanaro focused on patent risk assessments, including freedom-to-operate and evaluating various legal risks involved with prospective enforcement and defensive IP matters. He has received multiple IBM-internal IP professional outstanding achievement awards for his work. He joined IBM in 2015 fresh out of law school, where he passed the patent bar in his 1L year and on the first try. Montanaro holds a JD from Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, AL, and a BSE in chemical engineering from Arizona State University.
