Liliane Roriz

Liliane Roriz is a partner at Licks Attorneys, bringing over 20 years of judicial experience from her career as a Federal District Court judge and appellate judge. After retiring from the judiciary in 2013, she joined Licks Attorneys’ Rio de Janeiro office. She now serves as president of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee and has led initiatives aimed at increasing representation, particularly for women in intellectual property. One of her key contributions was hosting a landmark event focused on women in IP, where she presented critical data on female representation in the judiciary across Brazilian states, sparking discussions on gender equity and professional opportunities in the legal and IP sectors.  Beyond gender inclusion, Roriz is a strong advocate for mental health awareness in the legal profession.Prior to her judicial career, Roriz worked as a federal attorney for the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office. During her time on the bench, she chaired the Federal Magistracy School and the Second Specialised IP Panel, presiding over significant IP cases.An accomplished academic, Roriz has taught at prestigious institutions including Getulio Vargas Foundation and Candido Mendes University. She is a respected speaker who has presented across Brazil, the US, Europe, and Latin America. Currently, she chairs the Specialised Committee for 5G, Technical Standards, and Technological Innovation.As an active member of several professional associations, including the Brazilian Bar Association and the International Trademark Association, she continues to influence IP law. Roriz has published extensively on IP topics, contributing to important discussions about patent systems, technological innovation, and legal practice in Brazil.
