UK Trademark Rankings 2024

Collyer Bristow

Firm overview:

Peers report that on complex trademark litigation, City-based Collyer Bristow is “very hard working and manages to find important facts about the case that are materially important”. The corporate firm assists with trademark protection and registration, and handles challenges before the UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) and courts.

Although the firm is based in London, a third of Collyer Bristow’s revenue comes from international clients, as the firm advises non-UK brands on IP protection. For Belgian security company Praesidiad, Collyer Bristow brought invalidation proceedings before the UKIPO regarding the trademark ‘Tescon’, and succeeded on behalf of the client, obtaining damages as a result.

Team overview:

Update: Partner Tim Bamford, who sadly passed away in April 2024, was a respected solicitor-advocate who was with Collyer Bristow for 10 years. He represented clients in contentious IP matters, including Praesidiad in the matter before the UKIPO.  His experience included complex trademark matters and international disputes.

Collyer Bristow said in a tribute that Bamford "helped to build and grow the reputation of the firm’s IP practice. Regularly ranked as a leader his field, Tim was well known in the IP world for his sharp eye for detail, robust approach, and absolute dedication to his clients’ interests."

Daniel Simon, senior partner, described Bamford as having had "many strengths, not least his fierce intellect, integrity, and tenacity. He was a widely admired and respected lawyer, and he leaves behind an immense professional legacy. We will miss him terribly”.
