USA Trademarks Rankings 2024

Haynes and Boone

Firm overview:

Haynes Boone claims the largest trademark practice in the Southwest, with nearly 40 trademark attorneys, paralegals and support staff across the US, plus prominent trademark lawyers in offices from coast to coast. The firm protects and enforces brand rights for household-names such as AT&T, Krispy Kreme and the Dallas Cowboys and has a growing network of international offices in London, Mexico and Shanghai.

The trademark team’s practice focus includes domestic and international trademark clearance, trademark infringement and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) proceedings.

Team overview:

Haynes Boone’s trademark team has considerable collective in-house experience, enabling its attorneys to be strong partners for their clients.

Dallas partner Jeff Becker advises clients on brand management in the US and abroad, and assessing infringement risks, enforcing trademark rights against others and defending against allegations of infringement. Becker serves as lead counsel for large brand owners such as AT&T and Halliburton before the TTAB.

Key matters:

  • Partners Erin Hennessy, Joe Lawlor and associate Annie Allison represented San Antonio Shoe in a TTAB victory that halted Nike’s attempt to register the term ‘Footware’ as a US trademark. The TTAB sided with Haynes Boone’s argument that ‘Footware’ was merely descriptive.
  • Since 2020, Haynes Boone has been the primary outside trademark counsel to the Dallas Cowboys and its parent company, Blue Star Operations Services. Led by partners Becker and Tiffany Ferris, the firm advises the team on trademark prosecution, brand management and portfolio strategy counseling.

Clients:

AT&T, DIRECTV, Galderma Laboratories, Halliburton, Krispy Kreme, Mattress Firm, Michaels Stores, The National Football League, Outback Steakhouse, Reddy Ice, Tuesday Morning, Wild Oats.
