Key matters:
- King Spider v Panda (SDNY 2024). Quinn Emanuel represents AUS Merchant Services, a US affiliate of Alipay, in a trademark counterfeiting case in which AUS intervened. In the case, the plaintiff obtained an ex parte temporary restraining order freezing an account belonging to AUS, alleging that funds belonging to the defendant passed through it. Quinn Emanuel successfully moved to have the account, which contained more than $40 million, released.
- Harpo v Jackson et al (SDNY 2023). The firm represented Roulette Productions and the co-hosts of podcast Oprahdemics in a widely reported suit brought by Oprah Winfrey’s company, Harpo. Harpo alleged the podcast’s title and logo exploited the goodwill and reputation of its trademarks ‘Oprah’ and ‘O’. Harpo agreed to settle the dispute and it was dismissed with prejudice.
