Seyfarth Shaw
Firm overview:
Established in Chicago in 1945, global, full-service firm Seyfarth has grown to now operate across the US, Asia and EMEA.
Of the firm’s 13 US offices, those with significant trademark activity are in Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and Seattle. Warranting particular recognition are the Boston, Houston and Seattle offices for their high calibre of clients and matters.
WIPR ranked Seyfarth in 2023 in recognition of both its non-contentious litigation and contentious litigation practices, and the firm retains its position for these rankings in 2024.
A peer who has been opposing counsel to Seyfarth has “the utmost respect” for the firm. “They're fantastic. We have a very great working relationship, and we have a very strong mutual respect for one another.”
Seyfarth’s trademark prosecution attorneys have handled the preparation and prosecution of thousands of trademark applications around the world, and are counsel of record for the owners of many well-known trademarks and service marks.
The firm has developed an online matter-tracking, reporting, and document management tool for clients’ global trademark prosecution and portfolio management.
Team overview:
The firm’s trademark litigation team helps clients protect and maintain IP value through trademark, false advertising and unfair competition litigation. Litigators have experience in federal and state courts, before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB); before the National Advertising Division (NAD) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus; and other federal and state agencies—as well as working with US Customs.
Edward Maluf co-chairs Seyfarth’s global Intellectual Property Practice Group and is a member of the firm's Advertising & Marketing team. An IP litigator, prosecutor, and counsellor, Maluf has more than 33 years’ experience of representing global clients.
“Ed and his team are not only knowledgeable in their field, but they are also approachable and easy to work with,” says an appreciative client. “They take the time to listen to our concerns and questions, and they are always responsive and prompt in their communications. Their commitment to us as their clients is truly exceptional, and it is evident in the quality of work they produce.”
Ken Wilton is Seyfarth’s national Trademark Practice lead and co-chair of the national Advertising & Marketing Group. Active on the prosecution and litigation sides of trademark law, Wilton has tried more than a dozen cases before the TTAB.
Beginning his career as a litigator, Wilton regularly litigates copyright, patent and related IP cases in federal court and is well respected by peers.
