Harter Secrest & Emery appoints counsel to NY office
New addition’s experience of advising clients on domestic and global patent prosecution spans nearly two decades.
New York-based Harter Secrest & Emery has hired Douglas Smith, as counsel in the IP practice group and the firm’s Rochester, New York office.
Before joining Harter Secrest & Emery, Smith practised with Woods Oviatt Gilman in Rochester, New York, and also Kloss, Stenger & LoTempio in Buffalo, New York.
For close to two decades, Smith has been advising clients on domestic and global patent prosecution, as well as patent portfolio management and strategy development.
He counsels clients on the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, conducts patentability searches, prepares patentability opinions, and performs patent infringement and validity analyses.
With experience of intricate technologies and developing strategies to protect a diverse array of inventions, Smith is an author of numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles and has given several national and international scientific presentations.
He is a member of the Monroe County Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
With offices in Rochester, Buffalo, Albany, Corning, and New York City, Harter Secrest & Emery represents clients ranging from individuals and family-owned businesses to Fortune 100 companies and regional institutions.
