Gowling WLG has announced that Shahrzad Esmaili is returning to the firm as an IP partner.
Esmaili was a patent agent at Gowling between 2005 and 2013 before working at Blake, Cassels & Graydon and Smart & Biggar/Fetherstonhaugh. She has now returned to Gowling’s Totonto office as a partner in the firm’s IP group.
A registered patent agent in both Canada and the US, Esmaili has extensive experience in patent prosecution and drafting. She advises start-ups on the development of their IP portfolios, as well as identifying potential infringement and validity concerns.
Esmaili has particular expertise in electrical and computer inventions, biomedical devices, and mechanical devices.
Peter Lukasiewicz, CEO of Gowling’s Canada division, said the firm is “thrilled” to welcome Esmaili back.
“With her advanced technical background in computer and electrical engineering and her years of practice, she has the experience to help our clients protect and commercialise their most sophisticated innovations,” he added.
