Dentons, considered to be the largest global law firm in the world, operates more than 160 offices in more than 80 countries—including China and the Asia-Pacific region.

In August 2023, Dentons announced it would end its nine-year partnership with Beijing Dacheng Law Offices (大成), in response to “recent Chinese government mandates on Chinese law firms, including those relating to cybersecurity and data protection”.

While Dacheng remains Dentons’ preferred law firm in China—a wise move, given Dacheng’s presence and expertise across the country—the impact of this altered business relationship is yet to manifest.

In any case, enabled by its continuing relationship with Dacheng, Dentons retains its Hong Kong office—and retains its position in the rankings, which in 2023 recognised its work advising clients on trademark portfolio management, filing strategies, and prosecution.

The firm has litigated trademark matters before courts and arbitration fora, including trademark prosecution and defending trademark infringement, and ex parte and inter partes proceedings before the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). Dentons’ prosecution work covers industries such as retail, entertainment, software and internet.
